Historic Designation: | Pace-Boatwright-Aiken House |
Address: | 904 Main Street |
1973 Owners: | Mrs. A. H. Aiken |
Description: | House is rated excellent example of Beaux Arts Classicism. Conversion to apartments has retained many fine features. The crowned death molding and bookcases supported by classic columns in former 8oatwright library, still used as such the present occupant, and paneled dining room, now parlor, make a beautiful background for the furnishings of late 17th and 18th century reproductions. Collection of old pieces and accessories greatly enhance the beauty of the apartment. Of particular interest is an early Victorian pier mirror that once hung in the British Embasy in Washington, French lamp by Bouloute, matching pair of which is in the Oval Room of White House. |
