Description: |
This traditionally styled two-story house, with tall porch columns, has been home to the Fosters for over 20 years. It was built for Mr. R. Blair Haskins and his family in the mid 1920s on Lot No. II of the “College Place plan of lots.” About a decade after its construction, the property was acquired by Bessie W. Shields and her husband, Frank, a principal in the real estate firm owned today by his nephew, George Shields. In 1968, one of Bessie Shields’ nephews, Mr. W.T. Fowlkes, ir., purchased the house from her estate for his wife, Martha, and their family. During their residence, the Fowlkes made substantial improvements to the house, creating a spacious kitchen from several small rooms. In turn, the Fosters have continued over two decades to adapt and enlarge the house for their active family of three daughters. Their caring workmanship is evident in the rock hearth designed and built by Mr. Foster in the handsome family room which was extended to include a porch in 1998. Throughout the house are antiques and family pieces. Each has a story to tell; collectively, in room after room, they reflect the wide-ranging interests of their owners. |
