Description: |
A century ago the crossroads of North Union Street at Main, in the shadow of the Dudley Building and just up the block from Central Warehouse at Spring Street, was regarded as the crossroads of Danville. Today, the law partners at Daniel, Vaughan, Medley & Smitherman, PC., continue to see their sparkling offices on North Union near Main Street in just that way. Realizing the potential of three commercial buildings, which at the turn of the 20th century retailed clothing and dry goods, and supported a saloon to serve the City’s bustling tobacco market, these visionary attorneys have renewed this historic retail space to accommodate first-class, functional professional offices for the 21st century. During the afternoon tour, visitors can enjoy holiday refreshments, and see the sumptuous results of the adaptive reuse of the block, completed in a little less than a year from the time work commenced in the fall of 1999. The lobby makes a notable first impression with its two story foyer bathed in natural light streaming from a skylight, showing off the mellow wood of the original floors and glinting off pressed tin ceiling tiles that were rescued and refinished. |
